HempShed - HempStone’s Training Venue

This summer, join HempStone at the forest edge of South Hadley and dive into the world of radically responsible architecture.

An existing structure, HempShed is a 10’x12’ fully framed structure with a concrete slab foundation, shingled roof, and pre-installed skylight, windows and doors.

HempShed offers three distinct benefits over other trainings:

  1. Working on a small, complete structure allows you to learn all aspects of hempcrete installation.

  2. With training as the singular focus of the weekend (rather than production/completion) student engagement dictates the pace.

  3. Repurposing existing infrastructure is a carbon-conscious way to utilize resources. HempStone is pleased to be able to enhance the usefulness of this building with radical responsibility.

BONUS! Wonderful World of Natural Building

Friday evening - Kick off your weekend at this optional Introduction to the Wonderful World of Natural Building. Join us at HempStone’s Office for a thorough introduction to hempcrete and lime plaster. This is ideal for those who want an in-person introduction to natural building materials, to feel material samples, and to connect with other like-minded folks.

HempStone’s Office is Located in Northampton, Massachusetts

We really hope you can make it. If you must miss this event, please check out our NESEA HEMPCRETE 101 Video to catch up on Hempcrete Basics prior to the weekend.

Saturday - Meet at HempShed to gain an in-depth understanding of hempcrete fundamentals: materials, tools, and massing detail recommendations for hempcrete. To enhance your knowledge, we will dive into a hands-on hempcrete wall and ceiling installation on the HempShed.

Sunday - Return to HempShed to expand your knowledge on tools and techniques, material sourcing, and airtightness detailing for natural plasters, with a focus on lime. We’ll mix, demonstrate, and install several types of plaster on the HempShed.
