We Provide Sustainable Supply.

We see sustainable materials as a moral imperative.

We source and promote the most ecologically sound materials available for construction.

We put sustainability to work for you.

Hempcrete - Sustainable Solutions built to last.

Hempcrete = hemp hurd + a wet lime-based binder

HEMP

Rapidly renewable, carbon sequestering, versatile insulation.

Used throughout Europe since the 1990’s in high performance, low energy-intensive buildings, our European hurd is the gold standard for building.

The USA is starting to take off with growing hemp and developing US supply chains. We are partnering with hemp fiber growers and processors in the Eastern North America who are poised to bring their materials to market.

LIME

Ancient, adaptable, resilient, enduring thermal mass.

Lime was a building staple until fairly recently, and is making a comeback for good reason. Moisture mitigating, self-healing, and fireproof, it returns to limestone, providing structure and thermal mass.

We source, test, use, and promote the most robust and sustainable lime binder and plaster lime solutions.

HempStone provides a growing collection of natural building materials.

Our business is knowing the best natural building materials for your project.

We make sure you get materials to site when you need them.

Most materials we recommend, source, and supply are not kept “in-stock”, as that often adds to the carbon footprint of a material. Rather, we connect you to the best sources for your area, facilitating the supply chain process.

Working with us, you gain the expertise of our nimble network who have tested our trusted materials, put them to use, and are willing to put their names behind them. The result is that you can rest assured that these materials will work for you.

Pozzolans

Pozollans mixed with hydrated lime create the hydraulic chemical reaction needed for casting thick masses for walls, floors, and ceilings.

Hydrated lime is found abundantly throughout North America, whereas natural hydraulic limes are only found abroad. We are currently testing a variety of metakaolin pozzalons and PHL mixes, and expect to have recommendations in March, 2020.

Hemp+lime wall finishes

Plasters

Clay and lime plasters serve as our top recommendation for hempcrete finish. They add structure, thermal mass, and regulate moisture while keeping a necessary vapor open finish to the hempcrete mass.

Clays naturally have a pink or brown tint to them, while limes are typically white. Pigments can be added for color variety.

aggregates

Aggregates supply the body for plasters and mortars.

Sands come in a variety of sizes and qualities, and we are here to guide you along the way.

Sand is abundant, and best sourced as locally as possible. We are building a database of sand sources throughout the region and can work with you to source optimum sand supplies for your project.
